History

Academic Department

The Department of History strives to increase students' understanding of the past in order to give them a better perspective on the contemporary world. Coursework emphasizes American and European history, but students also take non-Western history courses to prepare them for life in our multicultural society.

Our programs focus on research, writing and analysis, preparing students for graduate school along with a variety of careers in education, law, government, museum studies and business. We also encourage students to study abroad and to complete credit-bearing internships at local museums, libraries or historical societies.

We also offer an accelerated program of study that leads to both a bachelor's degree in history and a master's degree in international relations within five years.
